The JT15D turbofan engine is suitable for either commercial or military applications and ranges in thrust from 2200 lbs to 3350 lbs.

The engine has an unsurpassed reputation for high reliability, low fuel consumption and quiet operation. These features have made the JT15D an ideal powerplant choice for corporate aircraft throughout the years. With only six major rotating components, the JT15D combines ruggedness, simplicity of design and ease of maintenance. Military versions feature a special lubrication system which provides inverted flight capability. The recently certified JT15D-5D offers the following technology improvements; an abradable aluminum Kevlar fan case, an integrally bladed fan rotor (IBR) and single crystal HP turbine blades.

Operation
The air enters the engine through the fan. approximately 70 percent is directed to the annular bypass duct providing most of the engine thrust. The rest is compressed and fed to the combustion chamber where it is mixed with fuel and ignited. The hot gas expands through the turbine stages; the first drives the compressor, and the accessories; the second, mechanically independent from the first, drives the boost compressor and the fan. Finally, the hot gas is discharged through the exhaust duct.
